You can also sign up for their Farm Stand Card Program. What’s a Farm Stand Card? Here’s how their website describes it:

“It’s like a gift card, but tastier. Farm Stand Cards give you pre-purchased credit to use at our Farm Stand. It’s an affordable and flexible way to enjoy the freshest, local organic produce and flowers and support our vibrant local food system. They come in increments of $225, with an additional 10% spending bonus. For example, when you pay $225, you’ll get a spending credit of $250. You can use your card any time you shop to buy anything we sell at our farm stand — from produce and baked goods to bedding plants and groceries. Pick your own flowers are included for Farm Stand Card holders.

How Does This Compare to Your Traditional CSA Model? Farm Stand Card shares are similar to a CSA in that you receive fresh organic produce and flowers each week and a discount on your purchase while committing to and supporting our local farm. They’re even better than a traditional CSA, though. The Farm Stand Card allows you greater flexibility to shop anytime the Farm Stand is open, and to purchase anything we sell in the stand. It gives you the vegetables, flowers, and local goods you want, when you want them, at the best price. Win-win-win!”

Looking to send a local, organic bouquet to someone special? New Leaf Organics offers Home Sweet Blooms floral deliveries to homes and businesses in Hinesburg, Vergennes, Middlebury, & Bristol! They also offer a pick-your-own flowers option throughout the growing season or you can purchase a flower bouquet subscription. The flower fields are located across the street from the farm stand.

Need flowers for an upcoming wedding or event? New Leaf Organics raises over 100 varieties of organic, specialty cut flowers and creates exquisite floral arrangements for weddings and events, from casual to formal. Their services, from full-service arrangements and delivery, to “pick-your-own,” to “weddings-in-a-bucket” are a great fit for all your events. Buying direct from the grower ensures the freshest, highest quality flowers at the best price. Buying organic ensures that agricultural chemicals aren’t endangering our environment or the farmworkers who handle the flowers. Click here to read more about why this matters.

According to Farmer Jill, “I’ve been lucky enough to find a dedicated crew of farming “geeks” who get equally as excited about discovering a great new variety to try or the thrill of our first seeds germinating in the Spring. Having a great crew keeps the farm dynamic and is better every season because of them. My kids, Ruby and Ada, and husband Skimmer make sure we don’t work the whole Summer away… Thanks for your interest in our farm! Supporting local farms like ours ensures that high-quality agricultural soils will be kept in farming for generations to come and proof that together we really can keep Vermont agriculture alive and thriving!”

Why Choose Local Seedlings?

Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and according to local garden lore, this marks the date when many feel it’s officially safe to put even the most frost-sensitive seedlings into your soil. When choosing your plants this year, we invite you to check out our gorgeous local seedling offerings from New Leaf Organics!

New Leaf Organics is a 1st generation woman-owned, certified organic farm nestled on the town line between Bristol and Monkton. Led by Jill Kopel, New Leaf Organics has been growing high-quality, deliciously fresh organic produce and flowers since 2000. As a gathering place for people through musical events, biking, flowers, and food, New Leaf is a lively and welcoming farm with a deep commitment to the local food system. Everything they grow is sold in Vermont, most of it within 25 miles of the farm! When in season, you can find their spinach, kale, parsley, fresh onions, and more glorious veggies & herbs in our produce department, but you may not realize that the full lineup of local seedlings sold on the Co-op plaza this time of year also comes from our green-thumbed friends at New Leaf! In this week’s Addison Independent, you’ll find a coupon for $3 off any local seedling at the Co-op, so this is a great time to adopt a few plants for your garden or sunny porch!

So, why choose local seedlings?

Aside from the fact that you’re supporting a wonderful local farm and keeping your dollars local, it makes good sense to purchase local seedlings for the assurance that you’re buying healthy plants that are regionally appropriate for our unique growing conditions here in Vermont. You’re also helping prevent the spread of plant diseases (blight, anyone?) and invasive pests like root aphids that travel in the soil. Additionally, many plants from large commercial nurseries, box stores, and garden centers are treated with plant growth regulators or PRGs. This class of chemicals is applied to nursery plants to preserve or encourage certain traits that help make plants more marketable. This might include bloom-holding capabilities on flowers or growth-stunters that would keep tomatoes, peppers, and the like from growing leggy while awaiting sale. PRGs are classified as pesticides and the residues of PGRs in agricultural products are seriously detrimental to human health due to their hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, genotoxicity, neurotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and teratogenicity. Plants at large garden centers are also often treated with neonicotinoids. These chemicals are systemic, which means they are absorbed by the plant tissues and expressed in all parts, including nectar and pollen. Unfortunately, this spells disaster for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators that are so vital to our health and the resilience of our food supply.

By choosing local, organic seedlings, you’re choosing to support local farms, your local economy, and preserving the health of your local ecosystem. It’s a win-win!

Their farm has evolved quite a bit over the years, but their core mission remains the same; growing high-quality organic produce, flowers, and plants that improve soil health and strengthen the community.

Their Mission

  • to grow high quality, deliciously fresh organic produce and flowers.
  • to maintain and build the health of our soil and water.
  • to keep this land open and in agricultural production.
  • to bring community together in appreciation of good food and eating with the seasons.
  • to help couples create a memorable wedding day brightened with our beautiful flowers
  • to be a healthy and joyous place for kids to roam and discover and help them learn where our food really comes from.
  • to provide a positive and meaningful place to work for our employees and ourselves.

They grow 3 acres of vegetables and 1.5 acres of flowers which are all sold in Vermont. You can find them at farmers markets in Waitsfield and Winooski and they deliver to various area stores and restaurants. You can also sign up for their fruit & veggie CSA and/or their flower CSA.

New Leaf Organics is in our 17th year farming. Even just writing that makes me feel old! Our farm has evolved quite a bit over the years from when we first started, but the core of our mission hasn’t changed much at all; Growing high-quality organic produce, flowers and plants that improve the health of our soils and strengthen our community.

We grow 3 acres of vegetables and 1.5 acres of flowers and everything we grow is sold in Vermont. Every week we attend farmers markets in Waitsfield and Winooski, our awesome CSA families come to pick up their shares at the farm, and we deliver to area stores and restaurants. We also sell our garden Plant Starts here at the Coop from mid-April to late June. We rely on a crew of 3-4 people to help make all this happen every week and couldn’t do it without their efforts. My daughters Ruby and Ada are now even at ages where they are able to really help a little bit. Plus they know well by now that a Vermont greenhouse can be the best place to be.

When I found our farm years ago I inherited these fairly amazing perennial flower gardens from the previous owner. At the time I was so used to working on veggie farms where everything was in rows as long as the eyes could see, that I didn’t quite know what to do with these “nonlinear” gardens. That first summer when they were all in bloom I found my new love! Ever since then growing flowers for people has become a passion of mine. It’s really hard to not smile when someone shows up at your door with fresh flowers!

During most weeks of the Summer and Fall, we are busy harvesting, designing, and creating floral arrangements for special events, mostly weddings. As much as we love doing wedding work we think everyone should be able to enjoy fresh flowers all the time. We hear from our CSA members that they love being the heroes in their house by bringing home flowers each week to enjoy.    Sooooooooo, This spring we kicked off a new Local Flowers Delivery Service that we are calling Home Sweet Blooms.  Now it will be possible to have local organically grown flowers, picked fresh that day and delivered right to your door! You will be amazed how long they last and be comforted to know that no people or soils were harmed by chemicals used to grow them.
